Stronghold progression for Dummies

Every guild has their own unique Stronghold instance that only members of that guild/and alliance (if authorized) can enter. Characters of any level can enter, but characters below level 70 are raised to level 70 in Stronghold zone.

Each stronghold starts with a level 1 Guild Hall, but other structures should be developed over time by doing quests and donating to the Stronghold’s Coffer.

What is the interest to develop and maintain the Stronghold?

The points of interest are essentially by priority:

Stronghold Boons (char abilities)

Masterwork Professions (improved stuff / sales opportunities)

Dragon Flight Stuff (stuff for the good start)

How Stronghold’s structures are organized?

All activities center around the Guild Hall. Every Stronghold starts with a rank 1 Guild Hall. Upgrading the Guild Hall increases the Coffer capacity, unlocks more plots to build on, and increases the maximum rank to which other structures can be upgraded. Note: Every 2 levels of Guild Hall you can increase 1 level of other buildings.

At level 2 of the Guild Hall you can build the Marketplace. The marketplace is located inside the Stronghold Keep, and consists of 4 NPC stores. Dragon Flight stuff is available in marketplace level 4 ( ⬄ Guild Hall level 8). If your guild doesn’t yet have a marketplace level 4, your members can purchase the Dragon Flight stuff from a marketplace level 4 of another guild of the Alliance.

Production structures automatically generate resources over time. Each structure has a maximum capacity and must be tended by a character to transfer the resources to the coffer. The structure can then continue to generate resources. The resources are required for the construction of many structures (for example, higher ranks of the Marketplace and the Guild Hall require Stone). Each structure has a corresponding Support structure that increases the rate of production.

You have the following Production structures:

Farm: A Farm produces Food over time. An Animal Pen can increase the rate of production.

Lumberyard: A Lumberyard produces Wood over time. A Milling Yard can increase the rate of production.

Mine: A Mine produces Metal over time. A Smelter’s Yard can increase the rate of production.

Quarry: A Quarry produces Stone over time. A Masonry Guild can increase the rate of production.

Warehouse: A Warehouse does not produce any resources, but increases the maximum capacity of the Stronghold’s Coffer instead. A Warehouse may be built at the “Maiden Lane’s Hollow” plot upon reaching Guild Hall Level 7. It’s possible to construct another the second Warehouse.

Support structures increase the rate of production of the Stronghold’s Production structures, or increase the effectiveness of PvP towers.

You have the following Support structures:

Animal Pen: An Animal Pen increases the production of Food, and maximum storage capacity of a Farm.

Masonry Guild: A Masonry Guild increases the production of Stone, and maximum storage capacity of a Quarry.

Milling Yard: A Milling Yard increases the production of Wood, and maximum storage capacity of a Lumberyard.

Siege Smithy: A Siege Smithy increases the effectiveness of your catapults in Stronghold Siege PvP battles. Unlocks the Enhance Overload: Stamina Drain Ward Boon at Rank 3, and the Enhance Overload: PvP Ward Boon at Rank 5.

Siege Workshop: A Siege Workshop increases the effectiveness of your ballista emplacements in Stronghold Siege PvP battles. Unlocks the Enhance Overload: PvP Slayer Boon at Rank 3, and the Enhance Overload: Stamina Drain Boon at Rank 5.

Smelter’s Yard: A Smelter’s Yard increases the production of Metal, and maximum storage capacity of a Mine.

The development of these Support structure isn’t very important for the basic Stronghold development.

What does mean that Guild Hall requires xx other structures at rank yy to upgrade?

Guild Hall structure is included in xx other structures required to upgrade that in reality you need only xx-1 other structures.

Let’s talk about Masterwork Professions

Before we talk about Stronghold Boons, we will come back to the second topic of Stronghold’s development interest. Masterwork Professions Quests. All Masterwork Professions quests are level 70 and require a Guild Hall of Rank 10 or higher. Compared to Marketplace level 4, it’s not possible to take the quests in another Alliance guild. Your own guild must be level 10 or higher. Occasionally inform your members that transferring to another guild is permissible in the Alliance for Masterwork Professions (the time to take and/or validate the quests…). For memory 2 Masterwork Professions quests by profession are available at Artisan in Stronghold level 10 or higher. Once training begins you may not begin training another profession until it is complete. For these 2 quests you receive [Masterwork profession Recipes I] and [Masterwork profession Recipes II]. To obtain the last one [Masterwork profession Recipes III] you can buy it with Artisan (Requires Masterwork profession Recipes II and Rank 14 Guild Hall). Training can be time consuming and expensive, do not begin training unless you are certain of your choice.

Stronghold Boons

Boon Structures unlock boons for members of the guild. Constructing the first boon structure requires a Guild Hall of Rank 5 or higher. Upgrading the boon structures unlocks more boons, and increases their effectiveness. An NPC at each Boon Structure also gives a daily quest.

So you have 7 “Boon Structures” possible.

The problem that you can only build 4 and you must make the choice.

As noted above, the first structure is available at Level 5 of the Guild Hall. At level 9 of the Guild Hall the second structure unlocks, then at levels 13 and 17 the third and fourth. Each structure progress like the other Stronghold structures, 1 level every 2 levels of Guild Hall.

To make a good choice of structures to develop, we will enumerate the possible Boons and associated structures.

Stronghold Boons are separated into 4 categories: Offense, Defense, Utility, and PvP, and you may only have one boon from each category active a time.

To be able to activate Stronghold boons, Boon Structures must be built. Higher ranks of the corresponding structures give larger benefits from the boons. Any member of the Stronghold’s guild may activate any boon that has been unlocked.
